The unique charm of the Back Bay rests, in part, on the delicate balance between those who live here and those who do business here.  The LBU Committee meets monthly to consider the potential impact of new or proposed changes in business licenses and of applications for commercial or residential zoning relief.

Licensing and buidlingIssues of prime concern to the committee include the affects of trash, litter, hours of operation, noise, traffic, parking and public safety. The LBU Committee strives to negotiate conditions that protect abutters and the neighborhood from adverse impacts, while also allowing business to go forward.

A representative of the LBU Committee attends most hearings before the licensing and zoning boards to confirm NABB's position. The committee also advises the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services, our District City Councilor, and Councilors at Large of NABB's position on each application.  In addition, the BRA is notified of NABB's position on all zoning relief applications.

Meetings normally take place on the first Monday of each month at 7 pm at the Lenox Hotel, 710 Boylston Street.

To schedule a presentation before NABB's Licensing and Building Use Committee, contact Tom High through the NABB office (617-247-3961).  For questions regarding potential zoning relief, please contact Vic Castellani also through NABB at 617-247-3961.
